Year 1 Preview Learning Archive 23-24

18 September 2023

This week in Maths we will be continuing with Place Value within 10. We will be looking at finding one more than and one less than a number to 10, and securing our accuracy with counting forwards and backwards within 10.

In English we will be starting a Talk for Writing unit on The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We will be learning the story before we begin to innovate it by changing the main character, and the food their character eats. We will be showing these changes on a story map.

Thank you for supporting your child at home with their Phonics last week. It really does help to reinforce the work we are doing in school. Phonics folders will be sent home on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays so please do not worry if you cannot complete it on the first night.

In Phonics this week we will be learning the different ways to make the ee sound (e,y, ee, ey, ie, ea, e-e)

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to speak to me after school.

Kind regards

Mrs Clifford

11 September 2023

Welcome to Year 1! The children have settled in really well and are trying very hard with their Year 1 work.

For the next few weeks in Maths our focus is on Place Value within 10. This week we will be counting and grouping objects, and counting on and back from any given number within 10. We will also be looking at numbers written as numerals and words.

In English we have been reading the story Not a Stick! By Antoinette Portis. This week we are going to use our own imaginations to create exciting things that our stick could be, and we are going to be writing these as simple sentences using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. We will also use our phonetical awareness to write unfamiliar words.

In Phonics we will be learning the different ways to make the ai sound (ai, ay, eigh, ey, ae, a, a-e, ea)

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to speak to me after school.

Kind regards

Mrs Clifford
