Year 3 Preview Learning Archive 23-24

18 September 2023

English
In English this week, we will continue to learn the story ‘The Fox and the Raven’. The children will have the opportunity to read a variety of stories with a moral and will look closely at the grammar and features that are used. As a class, we will create a shared plan and will begin to write a shared story together. The grammar focus this week is adverbial phrases, speech marks and adverbs.

Maths
Over the next few weeks, we will be concentrating on place value, looking at numbers up to 1000. This week, will be focusing on partitioning numbers to 1000. We will also continue to practise the place values hundred, tens and ones. I would encourage your children to practise looking at numbers up to 1000, allowing them to partition the number given. Please look at the model below which might be useful.

Homework
Homework will be given to your child every Monday and will be collected the following Monday. If you have any questions regarding the homework, please feel free to ask.
Reading
Your child is expected to read at home at least three times a week. When they finish their reading book, it is important that they tell an adult so we can get their book changed as soon as possible. Reading records are checked twice a week.
Spelling
Every week, your child will be given four spellings from the year 3 and 4 spelling list. We ask that they practise learning these spellings at home as they will be tested on these words every half term. The spellings we are focusing on this week are address, although, answer and appear.
In addition to this, if your child still needs to learn their year 1 and 2 common exception words, it would be fantastic if you could support them with this at home.

PE
Children have PE on Monday and Tuesday. Please make sure they have their PE kits for these days.
Have a fantastic week!
