In English, this week we will be beginning a recount text (newspaper report). We will be starting our guided reading sessions, looking at the book Varjak Paw.
We will revise and understand the use of relative pronouns and begin to understand how relative clauses can be used to develop sentence structure.
Spellings: The spellings we are focusing on this week are aggressive, amateur, ancient, apparent. Please practise these at home. The children will be tested on all the words on the Year 5/6 word list each term.
For Maths this week we will be continuing our unit on place value. We will be securing our understanding of numbers to 1,000,000 and count forwards or backwards in steps of powers of 10 for any given number up to 1,000,000.
For most of the Maths this term, the children will need to rely on their times table knowledge, therefore it is so important that they know their times tables facts and can answer questions quickly. Practising a little everyday (2-5 mins) will improve their knowledge and help them to access the maths learning more easily this term.
Times tables games – Learn them all here!
Notes:
- All children are expected to read at least 3 times and record the title of the book and the pages read in their home/school diary – each read needs to be signed off. They will be collected every Monday by Mrs. Parry.5 house points for 3 reads and 10 house points for 5+ reads.
- Bikeability Level 1 will be this week. Click this link for further information: https://www.bikeability.org.uk/get-cycling/cycle-training-for-children/bikeability-level-1/
Many thanks for your continued support,
