THIS WEEK’S LEARNING:
As we head into the final week of the spring term, we are very much looking forward to not one, but TWO special Year 4 events!
Firstly, on Monday 23rd March we will be hosting our guitars assembly. Families and friends are very welcome to join us in the school hall at 11am for a short musical performance showing the skills (and the tunes!) we have learned in our guitar lessons this year.
Then, on Thursday 27th March, Year 4 will be leading the BSM Easter service at St Mary’s Church. The service begins at 10am and we would love you to join us in celebrating this very special time of year.
We hope you are able to enjoy these milestones with use, and wish you all a happy and joyful Easter break.
Please note, there is no homework to complete this week or over the Easter break, and there are no spelling words to learn either.
Things to remember:
- Please bring your reading diary and reading book into school EVERY DAY. This will allow us to check how you are getting on with your reading book. You should aim to read five times per week, noting down the title of the book and the pages numbers you read, with each read signed off by an adult.
- Our PE days are TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY. You should bring your PE kit into school on Monday and take it home on Friday.
If you have any questions, PLEASE ASK! We are here to help you achieve your best, so please let us know if you have any worries or concerns.

Common exception words are words where the usual spelling rule doesn't apply. As children come across unfamiliar spelling and sound patterns in tricky words, their phonics knowledge won't always help them to sound out and read the word; such as the common exception words "sugar", "improve", "climb" and "because".
Some of these exception words are used frequently, so children are introduced to common exception words in Year 1 and Year 2.
Statutory spellings are lists of compulsory words that children in the UK are expected to learn to spell correctly by the end of primary school, as part of the National Curriculum.
These lists are divided into groups for Years 3 and 4, and Years 5 and 6. The words included are those that are frequently used in writing, are often misspelled, or may not follow regular spelling rules.

Please encourage your children to read at home and complete their reading diaries.
Pie Corbett’s Reading Spine is a core of books that create a living library inside a child’s mind. It is a store of classics and essential reads that help children engage at a deeper level and enter the world of the story.
